Having personal hygiene is pretty easy to achieve in our modern society. However, it is not as common in developing countries. We take it for granted.

Having poor hygiene may be due to the lack of awareness of poor cleanliness, and the risks of having proper hygiene, and how it might affect their general health and well being.

Hygiene is a preventive medicine and the science of preservation of health. Studies show that it can prevent multiple infections and diseases, including SARS or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, influenza outbreaks, and others. That’s why having proper hygiene is one of the most common global concerns alongside education and hunger.

Parts of the body to focus on when it comes to hygiene:

Hair- it is essential to keep your hair cut, washed and styled. Unwashed hair can look greasy and may also lead to other medical concerns such as the development of dandruff or other problems.

Mouth and Teeth – It is recommended to brush twice a day. This allows the removal of stains and food particles to get removed from oral cavities. Failure to do so can cause the formation of bacteria, which eventually leads to dental problems (and bad breath).

Feet – Poor foot maintenance may lead to fungal problems or more commonly known as Athlete’s foot. Keep them clean and dry to avoid complications.

Crotch Area – May be prone to harboring bacteria, which can cause itchiness and redness around the area.
